Building Bridges: My Career Change from the Service Industry to IT Communicator

Why I Chose Allexceed Vietnam
Because of the comprehensive training systems for both Japanese language and IT. I felt I could achieve long-term growth here.
What I Like About Allexceed Vietnam
Being surrounded by warm and friendly colleagues, with plenty of opportunities for career advancement. The open and positive communication among employees is my favorite part.
What I Recommend About Allexceed Vietnam
It’s an environment where you can not only work securely for the long term but also steadily build your career.
Today, we’re speaking with Ms. Le Ngoc Chau, an IT Communicator in the ICD (IT Communicator Department), about her experience at Allexceed Vietnam. Ms. Chau is currently undergoing training at our headquarters in Japan.
Ms. Chau, could you tell us about your current responsibilities?
Currently, as an IT Communicator, I’m involved in an upgrade project for our in-house customer management system, “Symphonizer.”
My role is quite broad, covering various stages from the initial development phases—like designing the color scheme and screen/report layouts for the new system—to integration testing and even fixing bugs that arise.
Alongside these technical duties, another crucial part of my role is to foster active communication between the teams in Japan and Vietnam, supporting a smooth collaboration between both sides.
I am currently working at Allexceed’s headquarters in Japan as part of my training, acting as a bridge for the engineers in Vietnam while communicating with the Japanese project managers and leaders.
An Interest in Culture That Led Me to Japan
You use Japanese in your work. What initially motivated you to learn the language?
Growing up with manga like “Doraemon” and “YAIBA” and Studio Ghibli’s animated films, I naturally became interested in Japanese culture.
I started learning Japanese seriously in college.
In addition to my existing interest in Japanese culture, I needed credits for a second foreign language to graduate, so I chose Japanese.
At first, I thought a conversational level would be enough, but when I seriously considered my future career, I anticipated a rise in Japanese companies entering Vietnam. That’s when I decided to elevate my Japanese to a business level.
After graduating, I moved to Osaka, Japan, to further polish my Japanese and deepen my understanding of the culture.
I was able to gain invaluable, firsthand experience not just by improving my language skills, but by immersing myself in the culture, customs, and daily life of the Japanese people.
What kind of work did you do in Japan?
Since I majored in tourism at university, I worked for a Japanese travel services company.
My duties involved using Japanese for everything, from assistant tasks and event management to preparing quotes and even planning tours.
Through direct interaction with customers, I was able to thoroughly hone my practical Japanese skills.
A Career Change into the Unfamiliar World of IT
From the service industry to the IT industry. That was quite a significant career change.
Yes, actually, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all operations at the travel company I was working for came to a halt.
That’s when I took a deep look at my future.
A strong desire grew within me to work in an industry that is constantly growing and not easily affected by external factors, which led me to decide on a career change to the IT industry, a field that was completely new to me.
That was a truly difficult time.
I imagine many people felt the same way you did.Did you have any prior knowledge of IT?
To be honest, I had almost no IT knowledge at the time…
I hadn’t studied programming in college and even lacked basic IT literacy.
However, when I thought about my long-term career, I was convinced that the IT industry was the only path.
So, I threw myself into self-studying the basics of Java and SQL.
I was confident in my Japanese, so I thought I could leverage my language skills and potential at a Japanese company. I began looking for a job at a Japanese IT firm.
During my search, I came across Allexceed Vietnam, which led to me joining the company.
How a Strong Training System and Work Environment Shape a Career
What made you choose Allexceed Vietnam from among the many Japanese IT companies?
The deciding factor was its very robust training system.
I felt I could blend the Japanese skills I had cultivated with new IT skills to build my ideal career.
The role of an IT Communicator requires not only Vietnamese-Japanese interpretation skills but also a certain degree of knowledge in software development and programming.
Allexceed Vietnam’s commitment to providing comprehensive IT education, even for communicators, to foster such talented individuals is something I found unique.
This was a huge attraction for me compared to other companies.
Also, the open, friendly, and cheerful atmosphere of the company was another key factor.
I was confident that at this company, I could steadily learn new technologies and skills while feeling secure enough to build a long-term career.
So, the comprehensive training system and the workplace atmosphere were the deciding factors. What were your first impressions after actually joining?
What struck me the most was how kind all my colleagues were and the incredibly supportive nature of my superiors.
Compared to my previous job, the support from colleagues and superiors at Allexceed Vietnam is exceptionally dedicated. I was able to absorb business knowledge quickly and integrate smoothly into the team right after joining. I truly feel that joining this company was the right decision.
Good Communication is the Key to Overcoming Challenges
Let’s talk about your work. What have been some of the positive aspects or benefits you’ve experienced in your daily tasks?
Every day is a series of new discoveries, and the fact that I can learn so much is the best part for me. There are constant opportunities to engage with new knowledge and technologies, and I can feel that it’s leading to my steady growth.
Also, I get to work closely with the project managers and leaders who are on the front lines at the Japanese headquarters.
Such opportunities are rare, and I’m truly grateful to my Japanese superiors I’m working with now.
I’m sure that working in Japan comes with its own set of challenges. How do you overcome them when you face them?
First, I assess the situation and thoroughly identify the core issue.
Then, I try various solutions.
And when I feel it’s necessary, I don’t hesitate to consult with my colleagues and superiors to find a solution together.
Having an environment where I can ask for help without hesitation when I’m in trouble is very reassuring.
I strongly feel that open communication with those around me is essential for sharing problems and working together to overcome them.
Is there anything you consciously do to ensure smooth communication with others?
I always make a point to practice “Ho-Ren-So” (Report, Contact, Consult).
By consistently sharing my status, it becomes easier for others to support me, and vice versa.
Furthermore, I believe that practicing “Ho-Ren-So” fosters a stronger sense of responsibility for my own work, so I consider it very important.
Has your perspective on communication changed since joining Allexceed Vietnam?
Yes, it has.
At Allexceed Vietnam, many projects involve numerous stakeholders and large teams, so I’ve realized that communication is much more critical than in my previous jobs. A small communication mistake can lead to a major problem.
Being in such an environment has made me appreciate the importance of communication even more deeply.
This importance is further amplified when dealing with different countries and languages.
Have you noticed any changes in yourself besides communication?
Through interpreting and translating for development projects, I feel my knowledge of the IT industry and software development has expanded significantly.
Of course, there’s still much I don’t know, so I plan to continue strengthening my knowledge base.
Becoming an Indispensable Bridge to Accelerate Offshore Development
What do you find most rewarding about your job?
I feel a great sense of reward when a project succeeds thanks to my role as a bridge between the development teams in Japan and Vietnam.
There’s always some anxiety at the start of a project, and in offshore development, I feel the pressure of knowing that my role as an IT Communicator can determine the project’s success.
But because of that, when a project is successfully completed and I receive words of thanks from the client and the development team, I feel an immense joy.
It’s in that moment that I feel all the hard work pays off. I truly feel this is a very rewarding position.
How do you hope to grow at Allexceed Vietnam in the future?
First, I want to achieve native-level Japanese proficiency while further deepening my understanding of Japanese business culture and ways of thinking.
On top of that, I aim to broaden my IT knowledge and become an “indispensable bridge” that can drive offshore development projects more efficiently and smoothly. To that end, my immediate goal is to become a fully competent Bridge SE.
During my current training at the headquarters, I’m not only deepening my business knowledge and understanding of databases but also getting involved in upstream processes like requirements definition and design. Through this, I’m learning how to communicate effectively with clients on a fundamental level.
In the long term, I want to leverage this knowledge and experience to the fullest to take on the rare and highly sought-after role of a “Vietnamese PM who can speak Japanese.”
For Anyone Anxious About Their Career, Let’s Grow Together!
Thank you!
Finally, do you have a message for those considering joining Allexceed Vietnam?
With the evolution of AI, the way we work is changing dramatically, and some may feel anxious about their future careers.
However, I see this change as an opportunity for growth.
Allexceed Vietnam has a welcoming environment for those who wish to steadily enhance their skills and career to remain active for the long term, even in these uncertain times.
In particular, through my own work experience in Japan, I’ve been able to gain valuable insights that are hard to come by, and I feel this directly contributes to my long-term career development.
For anyone who is pursuing self-growth and wants to build a solid career with an eye on the future, I can confidently recommend Allexceed Vietnam as the perfect place.
