Technical Skills Aren't Enough: Sharing Knowledge to Empower the Team!

Why I Chose ALLEXCEED VIETNAM
I was interested because of their well-established system development standardization and quality.
What I Like About ALLEXCEED VIETNAM
There are many opportunities to take on new challenges, so my work never gets boring.
I believe this is why I’ve been able to work here for such a long time.
Why I Recommend ALLEXCEED VIETNAM
It’s a place where you can grow the company together with trustworthy colleagues.
This time, we speak with Mr. Mac Hue Hung, who leads the technology at ALLEXCEED VIETNAM as the Head of the R&D Department, about his experience with the company.
Could you tell us about your current responsibilities, Hung?
As the Head of the Research and Development Department, I am responsible for researching, evaluating, and testing new technologies for the company to apply in actual software development.
Additionally, I am also in charge of technical management for several key projects.
Specifically, I provide technical support for large-scale core business systems that require advanced business logic and for complex systems with challenging architectures.
Other important duties include training and providing technical support for team members, guiding solution directions, and improving the software development process to enhance both quality and work efficiency.
Curiosity About How Computers Work Led Me to Engineering
What inspired you to start studying programming?
My journey into programming began with a simple curiosity about how computers and applications actually work.
From there, I started studying programming, and as I learned, I began to think that it wasn’t just about writing code to make things run, but about creating and building things that could be useful for myself and society.
Eventually, I started to enjoy setting difficult challenges for myself and creating programs to solve them.
And is that why you decided to become an engineer?
That’s right.
I majored in software engineering at university, where I systematically learned the fundamental knowledge of IT, from data structures, algorithms, and principles of software design to system development models.
While still a student, I had opportunities to work with object-oriented programming and desktop applications. The mindset of designing systems that balance both stability and maintainability is something I developed during that time.
So you learned the fundamentals at university. What did you do after graduating?
After graduating, I worked for a company that provided software solutions targeted at the Japanese market.
I was assigned to development projects for core business systems and software products tailored to client requests, where I gained a wide range of experience, from being a programmer to a team leader.
Interest in Standardized Processes and Quality Led Me to ALLEXCEED VIETNAM
After that, what led you to join ALLEXCEED VIETNAM?
Actually, since the company I was working for at the time also targeted the Japanese market, I had heard about ALLEXCEED VIETNAM from acquaintances in the same industry.
One day, I got curious and did some research on ALLEXCEED VIETNAM. I found out that the company emphasizes standardized processes in its development, which results in stable quality.
This focus on “standardized processes” and the “stable quality” they produce were points I also considered crucial when developing software.
I strongly resonated with this and decided to apply.
And so, I applied to ALLEXCEED VIETNAM and started working here.
What were your impressions after actually joining the company?
I was truly surprised to see that ALLEXCEED VIETNAM had such a well-defined development process, with a workflow that was standardized from start to finish.
Furthermore, something I only realized after joining was that this standardization process was effective not only for quality assurance but also for enabling team members to continuously perform at their best. Having a stable quality foundation allows the entire team to confidently focus on trying out new technologies and ideas.
I intuitively felt that this was the kind of environment that accelerates an engineer’s growth.
Also, on a personal note, the projects at ALLEXCEED VIETNAM are often large-scale core business systems. It was great that I could leverage my previous knowledge while also learning more deeply about specialized areas.
Were you nervous or anxious when you first joined?
Since my previous job was also at a Japanese-affiliated company, I was quite accustomed to the processes and work styles of Japanese companies.
Thanks to that, I was able to adapt to the environment smoothly after joining.
Also, the other team members were very supportive of me as a new employee, so I could start working with peace of mind from the very first day.
Seeing Members Stand on Their Own Two Feet Became My Joy
Now, I’d like to ask about your work.
Could you share any experiences at ALLEXCEED VIETNAM that you found rewarding or gratifying?
Having been on the front lines of system development for a while, in addition to actually writing code as an engineer, I often find myself supporting new team members, especially inexperienced fresh graduates.
Watching them absorb knowledge every day, gain confidence, and eventually stand on their own two feet brings me a sense of joy and fulfillment, as if it were my own achievement.
Perhaps that experience became the foundation for your current role in leading technology.
Exactly.
While I had managed projects as a team leader before, I had never experienced supporting subordinates and new members so deeply.
When I first experienced mentoring, I found it incredibly rewarding and a wonderful aspect of the job to be able to contribute to someone’s growth.
Technical Skills Alone Are Not Enough
When you’ve faced a major obstacle at work, how did you overcome it?
I believe that the best solution is to brainstorm and discuss ideas as a team.
When I hit a wall, I don’t try to handle it alone. First, I break down the problem into individual components to organize it.
Then, with the entire team, we thoroughly investigate and dig deep from multiple perspectives to identify the “real cause.”
We aim for a fundamental solution that prevents the same error from happening in the future, rather than just a superficial fix.
I value this process above all else.
You mentioned the importance of having frank discussions as a team. Was there an event that made you realize this?
Some time ago, a very significant problem occurred in one of our projects.
To resolve the situation, we decided to have an open discussion with the entire team, clarify who should do what, and cooperate by defining each person’s role.
Through this experience, we not only overcame the difficulty but also came to understand each other on a deeper level and became more strongly united as a team.
This incident is the very origin of why I value constructive team discussions more than anything else.
That’s a great experience!
Actually, until then, I used to think that for engineers developing systems, superior technical skill was everything.
However, system development, especially for large core systems, is almost never a one-person job.
I realized that technical skills alone are not enough, and that communication skills, time management, and above all, good teamwork are crucial.
Since then, I have made a conscious effort to sincerely accept feedback from my team and constantly strive for improvement.
That seems like a significant change.
Yes, it was. Through experiences like that, I learned to broaden my perspective to see the project as a whole, instead of just focusing on my own coding as an engineer.
I also began to think about how I could share my skills and knowledge with more engineers and what constitutes effective guidance.
Plenty of Opportunities to Challenge Myself, So It Never Gets Boring
You’ve been with ALLEXCEED VIETNAM for over 10 years. What are the reasons you’ve been able to work here for so long?
I think it’s because the company has a clear direction for growth, and to achieve that, there are many opportunities to take on various challenges.
Work is something you do every day, so inevitably, there comes a point where you might feel bored.
However, because there are so many opportunities to challenge myself, I feel fresh and can maintain a high level of motivation in my work.
Another major factor is that there are roles that match each person’s expertise and aptitude.
In my case, my personality—having a certain level of technical skill and enjoying teaching others—is a perfect fit for my current job. This has led to further recognition, creating a positive cycle for me at work.
That sounds like a very positive environment.
Are there any aspects outside of work that you find appealing?
Definitely the trustworthy colleagues.
The company organizes regular team-building activities, which I believe deepen the connections between teams and create a greater sense of unity.
Also, the clear salary increase and bonus system is a huge source of motivation.
I feel that my efforts are properly reflected, and I have a sense of growing together with the company.
The flexible remote work system is also excellent, making it easy to balance work and private life.
Going Forward, I Want to Further Strengthen the Company’s Technical Capabilities
What kind of role do you see yourself playing in the future?
I want to continue to take on the role of a technical architect in large-scale projects, while also focusing on training the company’s engineers.
In the past, I found great fulfillment in seeing young members absorb knowledge, gain confidence, and become independent.
That’s why I now want to enhance our training programs to create an environment where they can grow with peace of mind, and to nurture the next generation of engineers.
In terms of technology, what areas are you interested in and want to learn more about?
I want to expand my research into how to optimally develop and deploy applications on cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, while also deepening my understanding of system architectures suitable for the cloud environment.
In addition, I’m interested in solutions like QA automation, CI/CD, and DevSecOps to improve the overall quality of our products. Furthermore, I am learning about the application of AI in automation and decision-making, as well as the potential of blockchain for building more secure and transparent systems.
Going Forward, I Want to Further Strengthen the Company’s Technical Capabilities
